Come On In and Sit a Spell!

Building that houses the Dunbar Historical Society. Building is brick construction with two stories and a brown awning across the front.

The Dunbar Historical Society was founded in 1995 when a small group of residents decided to form an organization to acquire, preserve, and promote Dunbar's history.  The Society grew quickly and began to receive donated items relevant to Dunbar's history.  To this day, almost everything at the Society has been donated by generous and caring individuals.

The Society met at various locations over the years and raised funds for a number of projects, including improvements to the Honor Roll.  In 2006, a small park area in the center of town came up for sale.  The hope was to erect a small building on the site to house the Historical Society, but in the mean time, the former (and very historic) Dunbar Post Office building went up for sale. The Society was able to purchase both the park and Post Office building through much effort and the generosity of members and friends.

Over the ensuing years, the Society has made great strides in collecting and preserving historic items from both Dunbar Borough and Dunbar Township. The Society is forever grateful to the residents, members, and friends who have contributed the thousands of photos, stories, and memorabilia that is housed at our beloved museum.
