A Genealogy Story

James and Richard Patterson, June 2025

The Historical Society was recently visited by brothers Richard and James Patterson who traveled over a thousand miles following the trail of their ancestors across the United States.  Richard hails from Niceville, FL while James travelled all the way from Brownsville, CA (near Sacramento).

On their journey, they visited sites in Ohio and Iowa where their ancestors lived such as the Pine Creek Grist Mill in Muscatine, Iowa. They were seeking information on their fifth generation grandfather James H. Patterson (1793-1854) who lived in Dunbar and Franklin townships.  He was a farmer, township supervisor, and Elder in the Laurel Hill Reformed Presbyterian Church.

It was an honor to be a part of their journey and help them find some information on the Patterson family.
